WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION

So here is the sad truth: my husband and I have both been so busy that our big, lavish annual vacation this year consisted of three days in Chicago. I don’t think National Geographic is going to be devoting a special layout to us any time soon.

But we had fun ("quality, not quantity" being our official vacay motto) and I got to go to Wrigley Field—the Cub’s fan equivalent of Mecca—to see the Cubs beat the Dodgers. It was great; my husband (hereafter referred to as "Mr. Tall") is a lifelong Dodgers fan and we make a point of attending one of these grudge matches every summer, either in Los Angeles or Chicago. He
insisted on wearing his blue jersey to Wrigley, so of course I had to pretend I didn’t know him. And then, Mr. Tall being the random celebrity
magnet he is (sadly, I’m not kidding), we ran into Tommy Lasorda in the stadium. Tommy complimented the Dodgers jersey, which only encouraged Mr. Tall’s sacrilegious behavior. But then he spent the entire fourth inning hunting down a churro for me, so I forgave him. Almost.

And for all of you who spent the summer sunning yourself in Majorca or Maui…bite me. (Or at least take me with you next time! I promise I’ll be good, as long as we don’t get caught up in any bitter baseball rivalries!)
