Hi all—
The time has come for
back-to-school shopping and fall wardrobe updates.
Wool skirts! Cashmere sweaters! Badass black leather
boots!
Unless you live in Arizona—it’s
still 110 degrees every day here, and I anticipate
wearing shorts and flip-flops until well into
November.
Anyway.
I implore anyone who has not
already done so to join my Facebook fan page. I know
I’m a little bit of a slacker about updating this
website, but I’ve been posting updates and giving
away free books like mad via Facebook.
Speaking of updates, I’m pleased
to report that I’ve just turned in the manuscript
for my next book, which is tentatively titled
THE
BAKE-OFF and is slated for release in
May 2011.
Here’s the 30-second plot summary:
Suburban soccer mom Amy has
always wanted to stand out from the crowd. Former
child prodigy Linnie just wants to fit in. The two
sisters have been estranged for years, but thanks to
a series of personal crises and their wily
grandmother, they've teamed up to enter a
high-stakes national bake-off in the hopes of
winning some serious cash. Armed with the top-secret
recipe for Grammy’s apple pie, they should be
unstoppable. Sure, neither one of them has ever
baked anything beyond brownie mix, but it’s just
pie—how hard could it be?!
When the competition heats up,
what begins as a straightforward pact for victory
deteriorates into a sugar-coated free-for-all. Amy
and Linnie struggle to rebuild their relationship as
family secrets, old betrayals and new romances enter
into the mix. Given the right recipe and an
unexpected blend of bitter and sweet, even the
oddest pairings can produce something delicious.
I had so much fun writing this
book—I got to take a pastry-making class, I got to
eat an obscene amount of pie, and I got to talk to a
woman who’s actually won several national bake-offs.
Next week, I’ll be interviewing a professional
chocolatier and hopefully relieving her of some of
the “reject truffles.” These are the sacrifices I
make for my art.
Thank you to everyone who came out
to say hi at the signing events for
SECOND TIME
AROUND. It was great fun to meet you guys and hear
about everybody’s dream job (which ranged from
“jeweler” to “summer camp owner” to “Johnny Depp’s
assistant”). I’ll be doing more interviews and
guest blogs over the next few months, and I’ll be
announcing all the details for these over at
Facebook.
For which I have a fan page.
It’s right here.
See you there. And when you pull
on you fantastic new black leather boots, think of
me. I’ll be here in my flip-flops…scarfing down
reject truffles.
Xxoo,
Beth
